⚡ NEC 2026 Quick Hit: Chapter 9 Tables Breakdown ⚡
Stop guessing your conduit fill percentages. Here is what you need to know from Chapter 9 for quick calculations on the job. 👇
SLIDE 2 (CONDUIT FILL PERCENTAGES) Percent of Cross-Section for Conductors & Cables
1 Conductor: 53% Max Fill
2 Conductors: 31% Max Fill
Over 2 Conductors: 40% Max Fill
⚠️ Jamming Hazard (Info Note 2): Pulling 3 conductors into a raceway? If the ID-to-OD ratio is between 2.8 and 3.2, watch out for jamming!
SLIDE 3 (CRITICAL CODE NOTES TO REMEMBER)
The 24" Nipple Exception (Note 4): Conduit nipples under 24 in. (600 mm) can be filled up to 60%, and 310.15(C)(1) adjustment factors do NOT apply!
Ground Wires Count (Note 3): Equipment grounding and bonding conductors MUST be included in your fill calculation (use actual dimensions).
Multiconductor Cables (Note 9): Treated as a single conductor. For elliptical cables, use the major diameter as a circle diameter.
SLIDE 4 (CALCULATION RULES & WRAP-UP)
4. Rounding Rule (Note 7): When calculating permitted conductors, if the decimal is 0.8 or higher, round UP to the next whole number!
5. Where to Find Dimensions:
Same size conductors? Check Informative Annex C.
Compact stranded? Check Table 5A.
Bare conductors? Check Table 8.
