SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Personnel GFCI & OCPD Safety (Part 4) ⚡
Construction site GFCI mandates, portable generator rules, and current-limiting services—let's finish Article 590! 👇
SLIDE 2 (GROUND-FAULT PROTECTION FOR PERSONNEL)
Stopping Jobsite Shocks:
Receptacle Mandates: All 125V, single-phase, 15-, 20-, and 30-ampere temporary receptacle outlets (whether permanent wiring used temporarily, temporary site wiring, or on 15kW/smaller portable generators) require GFCI protection for personnel.
Industrial Exception: Industrial establishments with qualified supervision may use an Assured Equipment Grounding Conductor Program (AEGCP) instead of GFCIs only where GFCI protection causes a greater hazard (like ventilation fans) or is incompatible.
AEGCP Testing: If an AEGCP is used elsewhere, continuous written testing for ground wire continuity and correct polarity is required at intervals not exceeding 3 months.
SLIDE 3 (REUSED OCPDS & CURRENT LIMITING)
Equipment Integrity:
Reused OCPDs: Previously used overcurrent protective devices installed in temporary setups must be examined to ensure proper maintenance and no evidence of failure.
Current Limiting Services: Service OCPDs for solidly grounded wye systems over 150V to ground (up to 1000V) with available fault currents exceeding 10,000 amperes must be current limiting to reduce incident energy.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Never bypass construction site GFCIs because of "nuisance tripping"—they are lifesaving devices catching real ground faults and insulation breakdowns in portable tools!
