SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Mobile Home Wiring Methods (Part 3) ⚡
How do you protect nonmetallic cables under a mobile home? What are the rules for range and dryer connections? Let's review Sections 550.14 through 550.17! 👇
SLIDE 2 (CABLE PROTECTION & APPLIANCE WHIPS)
Physical Protection Standards:
Exposed Nonmetallic Cables: Nonmetallic cable located 380 mm (15 in.) or less above the floor, if exposed, must be protected from physical damage by covering boards, guard strips, or raceways.
Stud Protection: Cables passing through 2x2 studs (or where armor/cable is less than 32 mm / 1.25 in. from the edge) require steel plates or tubes with a minimum 1.35 mm wall thickness.
Appliance Whips: Ranges and clothes dryers connected via flexible metal conduit or metal-covered cable require at least 900 mm (3 ft) of unsupported cable/conduit secured to the wall. Type NM or SE cable cannot be used directly to connect ranges or dryers.
SLIDE 3 (UNDER-CHASSIS WEATHERPROOFING)
Weatherproofing Outdoor Runs:
Wet Location Raceways: Exposed outdoor or under-chassis line-voltage wiring (120V or higher) must be protected by a conduit or raceway identified for wet locations, using conductors listed for wet use.
Flexible Materials: Under-chassis raceways are not restricted to rigid metal conduit; PVC (rigid polyvinyl chloride) and RTRC conduits are standard and fully approved for under-chassis manufactured home runs.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Always ream cut ends of conduit and use double locknuts (one inside, one outside) when terminating rigid or intermediate metal conduit into enclosures!
