SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Pier Wiring, Disconnects & GFCI Rules (Part 2) ⚡
What wiring methods are permitted on floating piers? Where must the equipment disconnect be located relative to the shoreline? Let's break down Sections 682.13 through 682.15! 👇
Extra-Hard Usage on Piers:
Wet-Rated Wiring: Wiring methods must be suitable for wet locations and include an insulated EGC.
Portable Power Cables: Extra-hard usage portable power cables (rated 75°C, 600V with a "W" suffix) are permitted as permanent wiring on the underside of piers and where flexibility is needed across floating sections.
Readily Accessible Cutoffs:
Location: Disconnects must be readily accessible on land, located not more than 750 mm (30 in.) from the receptacle, within sight of (but not closer than 1.5 m (5 ft) from) the shoreline, and elevated 12 inches above the datum plane.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: All branch circuits supplying outlets up to 150V to ground and 60A require GFCI protection, and feeder/branch circuits on piers require ground-fault protection not exceeding 30 mA to prevent electric shock drowning!
