Securing, Supporting & Grounding — Article 350 Complete!
SLIDE 1 — Securing (350.30(A))
🛠️ SAME FRAMEWORK AS FMC
General rule: secured within 12 in. (300mm) of each box/cabinet/termination, supported at intervals not exceeding 4½ ft (1.4m). Cable ties MUST be listed and identified for securement/support.
4 Exceptions — identical structure to FMC:
1️⃣ Fished through concealed spaces where supporting is impractical
2️⃣ Flexibility needed after install — length capped by size: 3 ft (½–1¼ in.), 4 ft (1½–2 in.), 5 ft (2½ in.+)
3️⃣ ≤6 ft from luminaire terminal for tap conductors (410.117(C))
4️⃣ ≤6 ft from last secure point, connecting within accessible ceiling to luminaire/equipment
SLIDE 2 — Supports & Couplings
🛠️ HORIZONTAL RUN SUPPORT (350.30(B))
Horizontal LFMC runs supported through framing member openings at intervals ≤4½ ft, secured within 12 in. of termination points — permitted.
🔗 COUPLINGS/CONNECTORS (350.42)
Same rule as FMC: angle connectors shall NOT be concealed.
SLIDE 3 — Grounding & Bonding (350.60)
🌎 FIXED vs. FLEXIBLE INSTALLATIONS
(A) Fixed installation: LFMC CAN serve AS the EGC itself (per 250.118(A)(6)) — WHEN flexibility isn't required after installation.
(B) Flexible installation: a SEPARATE EGC is REQUIRED where flexibility is needed to minimize vibration transmission or allow equipment movement after install — SAME logic as FMC.
(C) & (D): EGCs follow 250.134; equipment bonding jumpers follow 250.102.
📌 Note: unlike FMC's UL-based 6-ft grounding limitation discussion, LFMC's article doesn't restate that specific figure here — but the SAME general principle applies: fixed = raceway can ground; flexible = needs a separate EGC.
SLIDE 4 — Marking + Final Exam Question
🏷️ MARKING (350.120)
LFMC marked per 110.21. Trade size and other listing info must ALSO be marked on the conduit. Conduit SUITABLE FOR DIRECT BURIAL must be marked as such — you can't assume; check the marking before burying it.
🎉 That's a wrap on Article 350 — Liquidtight Flexible Metal Conduit!
🧠 FINAL EXAM QUESTION FOR ARTICLE 350
Q: Per 350.28, cut ends of LFMC must be trimmed where to remove rough edges?
A) Outside only
B) Inside only
C) Inside AND outside
D) Trimming is not required for LFMC
