SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Protection, Terminals & Portable GFCI (Part 4) ⚡
Guarding live parts, terminal housing, motor mapping, and mandatory GFCI rules for portable generators—let's finish Article 445! 👇
SLIDE 2 (LIVE PARTS, BUSHINGS & TERMINALS)
Mechanical Safeguards:
Live Parts Protection: Live parts of generators operating at more than 50 volts ac or 60 volts dc to ground must not be exposed to accidental contact by unqualified persons.
Bushings & Terminal Housings: Field-installed wiring passing through sharp enclosure edges requires smooth, well-rounded bushings, and terminal housings must comply with motor rules under Section 430.12.
SLIDE 3 (PORTABLE GENERATOR GFCI PROTECTION)
GFCI Safety on Portable Units (15 kW or Smaller):
Unbonded Generators: Unbonded generators with 125V and 125/250V outlets must have listed GFCI protection for personnel on all 125V 15- and 20-ampere receptacles, unless interlocked when 250V outlets are in use.
Bonded Generators: Bonded portable generators must be provided with GFCI protection on all 125V, 15- and 20-ampere receptacle outlets.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Always verify whether your 15-kW or smaller portable generator features a bonded or floating neutral configuration to ensure your 125V receptacle GFCI protection operates properly without nuisance tripping!
