⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Class III Wiring Methods (Part 2 - Article 503) ⚡
Conduits, EMT, cable trays, and open wiring in storage rooms—how do you run raceways safely in fiber-laden environments? Let's check Section 503.10! 👇
Approved Raceways & Enclosures:
Rigid & Metallic Methods: Permitted wiring methods include Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC), PVC, RTRC, Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT), wireways, and listed cables (Type MC, MI, ITC, TC, Type P).
Dusttight Requirements: All boxes and fittings in Class III, Division 1 locations must be dusttight.
Cable Tray Spacing: Cables installed in trays must be in a single layer with a space not less than the larger cable diameter between adjacent cables to prevent heat buildup.
Storage Area Exemptions:
Division 2 Rules: Wiring must generally comply with Division 1 requirements.
Open Wiring on Insulators: In sections or compartments used solely for storage and containing no machinery, open wiring on insulators is permitted if protected from physical damage and kept well out of reach.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Flexible connections in Class III areas must utilize dust-tight flexible connectors, LFMC, LFNC, or extra-hard-use flexible cords with listed dust-tight fittings!
