⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Relocatable Bonding & GFCIs (Part 4) ⚡
Chassis bonding rules, shared communication terminations, and outdoor compartment GFCI requirements—let's finish Article 545! 👇
Equalizing Potential Across Sections:
Bonding Exposed Metal: All exposed non-current-carrying metal parts likely to become energized must be bonded to the panelboard grounding terminal/enclosure, with a bonding conductor connected to an accessible terminal on the chassis.
Connecting Multiple Sections: Chassis of multiple relocatable sections physically connected together must be bonded with a solid copper 8 AWG minimum conductor.
Intersystem Bonding: Connected units can share a single communication system bonding termination (connected via a minimum 6 AWG copper conductor to each chassis bonding conductor).
Compartment Safety:
Outdoor Compartments: In addition to standard Article 210.8 rules, all receptacle outlets installed in compartments accessible from outside the relocatable structure must have GFCI protection for personnel.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Ensuring continuous chassis bonding and reliable grounding across joined modular trailer sections is critical for eliminating hazardous touch potentials!
