Slide 1 — Hook "New article! Article 267 covers outdoor medium/high-voltage wiring running between buildings, structures, and poles on a property." Text overlay: ARTICLE 267 — OUTSIDE BRANCH CIRCUITS & FEEDERS OVER 1000V ⚡ Part 1 of 11
Slide 2 — 267.1 Scope
Covers outside branch circuits/feeders over 1000V AC or 1500V DC that run on or between buildings, structures, or poles on the premises — plus wiring/equipment supplying outdoor utilization equipment mounted on or attached to those buildings/structures/poles.
This is what was left of old Article 235 after branch circuits, feeders, and services got their own dedicated medium-voltage articles for 2026.
Slide 3 — 267.4 & 267.6
267.4 Insulation: open individual overhead conductors within 10 ft of any building/structure (other than supporting poles/towers) must be insulated for the nominal voltage. Conductors in wet-location cables/raceways follow 310.10(C) up to 2000V, or need a wet-location rating above 2000V. EGCs and grounded circuit conductors can stay bare/covered where otherwise permitted elsewhere in the code.
267.6 Overhead span sizing: open individual conductors can't be smaller than 6 AWG copper / 4 AWG aluminum; in cable, 8 AWG copper / 6 AWG aluminum.
Slide 4 — Quiz + CTA Q: "Open individual overhead conductors must be insulated for nominal voltage if within what distance of a building (other than supporting poles/towers)?" A) 3 ft B) 6 ft C) 10 ft D) 15 ft
✅ Answer: C — 267.4: within 10 ft (3.0 m) of the building or structure.
