Who I Am

I’m Josh, an electrical apprentice and the creator of JoshTheSparky — a platform built around electrical work, learning, the NEC, jobsite experience, and sharing what I learn along the way.

I’m still early in my electrical career, but I’m serious about building a strong foundation and becoming the best electrician I can be. JoshTheSparky is where I document that journey, share what I’m learning, create educational content, and connect with other people in the electrical trade.

My goal isn't just to learn how to do the work — it's to understand why the work is done the way it is. That means studying electrical theory, the National Electrical Code, proper installation practices, safety, tools, troubleshooting, and the real-world lessons that come from working in the field.

⚡ My Electrical Career

I am currently working toward building the field experience and licensing hours necessary to progress through the Massachusetts electrical licensing path.

My long-term goal is to work my way through the:

Apprentice → Journeyman → Master Electrician

ladder in Massachusetts.

I recently completed a project where I logged approximately 200 hours of hands-on field experience through a temporary agency and a local electrical contractor. As that project has wrapped up and the work has become farther from home, I am now looking for my next opportunity.

At this point in my career, I’m hoping to find local work with the right company or team, with the potential to build a long-term working relationship. I’m open to full-time employment or part-time work with an adjustable schedule, depending on the needs of the company and the opportunity.

What I'm Looking For

I'm interested in electrical work where I can:

• Gain legitimate, hands-on field experience

• Continue accumulating licensing hours

• Learn from experienced electricians and contractors

• Develop stronger installation and troubleshooting skills

• Improve my understanding of the NEC

• Build experience across residential, commercial, and/or industrial electrical work

• Become a dependable member of a crew

• Find a company or team I can grow with long term

• Continue progressing toward my Journeyman and eventually Master Electrician license

🎓 Education & Journeyman Training

I am currently enrolled at Bay Path, completing the Massachusetts journeyman electrical code-training program.

I am currently working through Module 5 of 8, putting me in my third year of a four-year educational program toward my Journeyman code training.

With the majority of my formal education already completed and continuing education planned, I’m reaching a point where I can place an even greater focus on maintaining my education while finding the right company or team to build my field experience with.

My education and field experience go hand in hand. I want to take what I learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world electrical work, while using my field experience to better understand the code and theory behind the work.

Experience & Development

• Apprenticeship experience in the electrical trade

• Approximately 200 hours of recent hands-on commercial field experience

• Experience working through a temporary agency and with a local electrical contractor

• Studying the National Electrical Code and electrical theory

• Currently completing Module 5 of 8 in journeyman code training at Bay Path

• Developing practical installation and troubleshooting skills

• Learning proper wiring methods, equipment grounding and bonding, overcurrent protection, raceways, conductors, and electrical equipment

• Building familiarity with electrical tools, materials, and jobsite practices

• Continuously studying outside of work to strengthen both code knowledge and practical understanding

Education & Self-Study

My electrical education doesn't stop when the workday ends. I regularly study electrical theory, the NEC, installation practices, safety, and other technical resources to strengthen my understanding of the trade.

I'm particularly focused on developing the ability to understand the NEC rather than simply memorize it.

AC/DC electricity, voltage, current, resistance, power, circuits, magnetism, transformers, inductance, capacitance, and fundamental electrical principles.

National Electrical Code
Learning how to navigate and apply the NEC to real-world electrical installations.

Field Skills
Wiring methods, raceways, conductors, terminations, devices, panels, equipment, grounding and bonding, and jobsite practices.

Safety
Electrical safety, safe work practices, PPE, jobsite awareness, and understanding the hazards associated with electrical work.

Troubleshooting
Developing the ability to understand electrical problems logically and work toward safe, code-compliant solutions.

💪 What I Bring

I consider myself reliable, dependable, teachable, and motivated.

I take direction well, I'm willing to learn, and I'm comfortable working with different personalities and teams. I believe I can work with just about anyone, and I understand that being a good electrician isn't only about technical knowledge — it's also about showing up, being dependable, paying attention, working safely, and being someone your crew can count on.

I don't expect to know everything. I'm looking for the opportunity to learn, contribute, improve, and earn my place in the trade.

I'm more motivated than ever to continue building my career, and I'm excited to explore the opportunities that are available.

📈 Where I'm Going

I'm building JoshTheSparky alongside my electrical career because I believe documenting the learning process can help both myself and others.

The long-term goal is simple:

Learn the trade → Build the hours → Earn the licenses → Keep learning → Become a Master Electrician.

I'm building more than a website.

I'm building a record of my career.

The goal is simple:

Eventually, I want to reach the top of the Massachusetts licensing ladder and become a Master Electrician.
