⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Secondary Circuits & Bare Conductors (Part 4) ⚡
Secondary grounding bans, 7-foot bare conductor heights, and 20-amp branch circuit limits—let's finish Article 411! 👇
SLIDE 2 (SECONDARY CIRCUITS & BARE CONDUCTORS)
Isolating and Grounding Rules:
Grounding Prohibition: Secondary circuits shall not be grounded (unless supplied by a Class 2 power source specifically listed and identified as suitable for secondary grounding).
Isolation: Secondary circuits must be insulated from the branch circuit by an isolating transformer.
Bare Conductors: Exposed bare conductors (like trapeze lights) are permitted for indoor installations only, and must be installed at least 2.1 m (7 ft) above the floor unless specifically listed for a lower height.
SLIDE 3 (BRANCH CIRCUIT SUPPLY)
Feeding the Power Supply:
Class 2 Supplies: Conductors and equipment supplying Class 2 power sources must comply with Section 725.127.
Other Power Sources: Non-Class 2 power sources must be supplied from a maximum 20-ampere branch circuit.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
When installing exposed low-voltage cable systems like cable lights or rail lights indoors, make sure they sit at least 7 feet off the finished floor unless the system listing specifically allows a lower mounting height!
