SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Fixture Wire Identification (Part 2) ⚡
Conduit fill percentages, white stripe grounded identification, and surface markings—let's check Sections 402.7 through 402.9! 👇
SLIDE 2 (CONDUIT FILL & RACEWAY RULES)
Managing Wire Bundles:
Chapter 9 Limits: The number of fixture wires permitted in a single conduit or tubing shall not exceed the percentage fill specified in Chapter 9, Table 1.
Protected Installation: Fixture wire is permitted in raceways or enclosures where protected from physical damage and mechanical stress.
SLIDE 3 (GROUNDED IDENTIFICATION & MARKINGS)
Recognizing Circuit Conductors:
Grounded Conductor ID: Fixture wires intended as grounded conductors must be identified by one or more continuous white stripes on non-green insulation (or via standard flexible cord identification methods).
Surface Markings: Thermoplastic-insulated fixture wire shall be durably marked on the surface at intervals not exceeding 610 mm (24 in.).
Tag Markings: All other fixture wire types are marked via a printed tag attached to the coil, reel, or carton.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Properly identifying grounded fixture wires with white stripes prevents accidental connection of ungrounded conductors to the screw shell of a lampholder, mitigating electric shock hazards!
