SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Fixed vs. Freestanding Furnishings (Part 3) ⚡
When must office furniture be permanently wired using Chapter 3 methods? When can it use flexible cords? Let's break down Sections 605.7 and 605.8! 👇
SLIDE 2 (FIXED-TYPE OFFICE FURNISHINGS) Secured to Building Surfaces:
Permanent Connection Required: Office furnishings that are fixed (physically secured to building floors, walls, or structural surfaces) must be permanently connected to the building electrical system using one of the wiring methods from Chapter 3 (such as EMT, MC cable, or RMC).
SLIDE 3 (FREESTANDING-TYPE OFFICE FURNISHINGS) Movable Workstations:
Freestanding office furnishings (not secured to building surfaces) are permitted to connect to the building electrical system using either a permanent Chapter 3 wiring method or a single flexible cord and plug (per Section 605.9).
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
If a modular workstation row is bolted down or permanently secured to the building structure, throw away the plug-and-cord idea—you are required to transition to a permanent Chapter 3 wiring method!
