SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Switch Operation & Height Limits (Part 3) ⚡
ON/OFF handle positions, center-pivot busway switches, and the 6-foot 7-inch maximum height rule—let's review Sections 404.9 and 404.10! 👇
SLIDE 2 (INDICATING & HANDLE POSITIONS)
Clear ON/OFF Status:
Visible Indication: Enclosed switches and circuit breakers must clearly indicate whether they are in the open (OFF) or closed (ON) position from the outside.
Vertical Operation: When operated vertically, the UP position must be the closed (ON) position (with exceptions for double-throw and center-pivot busway switches).
SLIDE 3 (ACCESSIBILITY & MAXIMUM HEIGHTS)
Reaching the Handle:
Readily Accessible: All switches and circuit breakers used as switches must be located so they can be operated from a readily accessible place.
Height Limit: The center of the grip of the operating handle in its highest position must not exceed 2.0 m (6 ft 7 in.) above the floor, finished grade, or working platform.
Exceptions: Busway switches operated from the floor, switches adjacent to equipment they supply, and hookstick-operable isolating switches are exempt.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Always double-check your mounting height dimensions—if a disconnect handle reaches higher than 6 feet 7 inches from the floor without qualifying for an equipment exception, it will fail inspection!
