SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: RV Converters & Generators (Part 2) ⚡
AC-to-DC converters, chassis bonding, and safe generator transfer switches—let's check Sections 551.20 through 551.33! 👇
SLIDE 2 (VOLTAGE CONVERTERS & BONDING)
Managing AC and DC Power:
Converter Sizing: To size AC-to-DC voltage converters, apply specific demand percentages to 12V loads: 100% for the first 20 amperes, 50% for the second 20 amperes, and 25% for all loads above 40 amperes.
Chassis Bonding: The non-current-carrying metal enclosure of the voltage converter must connect to the vehicle frame using a minimum 8 AWG copper conductor. Autotransformers are strictly prohibited.
SLIDE 3 (GENERATORS & INVERTERS)
Isolating Power Sources:
Generator Protection: Equipment must ensure engine generators and outside power sources cannot connect to vehicle circuits at the same time. Automatic transfer switches must be listed for emergency or optional standby systems.
Inverter Safety Labels: Inverter systems require prominent warning labels at panelboards and feeder entries, warning technicians to disconnect all AC and DC power before servicing.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Bonding the converter enclosure with an 8 AWG copper wire prevents heavy DC fault currents from destroying your AC grounding path and vehicle frame!
