SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Flexible Cords & Locking Connectors (Part 4) ⚡
How do modular wiring systems transition to display cases or temporary workstations? Why must prefab connectors be uniquely polarized? Let's finish Article 604! 👇
SLIDE 2 (FLEXIBLE CORD TRANSITIONS) Bridging to Utilization Equipment:
Hard-Usage Cord: Hard-usage flexible cord (min 12 AWG, max 1.8 m / 6 ft in length) is permitted to make transitions between manufactured wiring systems and equipment not permanently secured to the building.
Visibility Mandate: The cord must be visible for its entire length, free from physical damage, and provided with identified strain relief.
SLIDE 3 (POLARIZED CONNECTORS & SAFETY) Locking & Preventing Misconnection:
Locking & Polarized: Receptacles and connectors must be of the locking type, uniquely polarized, and part of a listed assembly.
Inadvertent Contact Protection: All connector openings must be designed to prevent accidental contact with live parts or be capped off effectively when not in use.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Uniquely keyed and polarized locking connectors prevent cross-circuit plugging between different voltage tiers or branch circuits in a modular grid. Never force a mismatched plug!
