⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Modular Wiring & Box Securement (Part 2) ⚡
How do you secure electrical boxes inside closed factory walls? Can modules use special plug-and-play connectors on-site? Let's check Sections 545.9 through 545.13! 👇
Factory-Mounting Rules:
Box Dimensions: Listed boxes of dimensions other than those required in Table 314.16(A) are permitted in manufactured buildings.
Small Box Anchoring: Any box not over 1650 cm3 (100 in.3) intended for mounting in closed construction must be affixed with anchors or clamps to ensure a rigid, secure installation.
Integral Enclosures: Receptacles or switches with integral enclosures and mounting means are permitted if tested, identified, and listed to applicable standards.
Concealed Modular Fittings:
Interconnecting Modules: Fittings and connectors intended to be concealed at the time of on-site assembly are permitted for interconnecting modules or building components if listed to applicable standards.
Performance Requirements: These concealed connectors must match the wiring method in insulation, temperature rise, and fault-current withstand, while enduring vibration and minor relative motions between modules.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Factory prewired modular wiring harnesses and listed plug-in connectors make multi-box assembly on job sites fast and reliable when installed per code specs!
