SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Stand-Alone Equipment Listing (Part 2 - Article 710) ⚡
Can you just wire up any off-grid inverter or generator assembly? Section 710.2 sets strict approval and listing standards for all stand-alone power production equipment. Let's look at the rules! 👇
SLIDE 2 (APPROVAL METHODS) How Must Power Production Gear Be Approved?
Method 1 — Product Listing: Equipment must be formally listed by a recognized testing laboratory (e.g., UL).
Method 2 — Field Evaluation: Equipment must be evaluated specifically for the application and have an approved field label applied by a qualified evaluation body.
SLIDE 3 (APPLICABLE UL STANDARDS) Key Product Standards to Know:
UL 1741: Inverters, converters, controllers, and interconnection gear for distributed energy resources.
UL 62109-1: Power converters specifically evaluated for PV power systems.
UL 2200: Stationary engine generator assemblies used in stand-alone setups.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Off-grid doesn't mean "off-code"! Unlisted, unapproved DIY inverters or custom power conversion gear won't pass inspection unless they undergo a formal field evaluation and receive an applied field label.
