SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Installing Fire-Resistive Systems (Part 2) ⚡
Can you pull fire-resistive cables through standard EMT using regular wire soap? Section 772.5 sets extremely strict rules for installation outside fire-rated rooms. Let's break it down! 👇
SLIDE 2 (MOUNTING, SUPPORTS & RACEWAYS) Strict Hardware Rules:
Secured to Structure: Cables and supports must be mounted strictly in accordance with the manufacturer's listing.
Listed Raceways & Fittings: If the cable is listed to be installed in a raceway, the enclosing raceway, couplings, and connectors must be listed as part of the fire-resistive system.
SLIDE 3 (INDEPENDENT BOXES & LUBRICANTS) Enclosures & Pulling Soap:
Independent Box Mounting: Boxes and enclosures must be listed as part of the system and secured to the building structure independently of the raceways or cables.
Approved Lubricants Only: Pulling lubricants used in raceways must be explicitly listed as part of the fire-resistive system.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Never use standard off-the-shelf wire-pulling lube on a fire-resistive cable run unless it is specifically called out in the manufacturer's system listing. Chemical interactions can degrade the fire-barrier jacket!
