Sparky’s Weekly Report: Week 20

⚡ Key Mindset

This week kept the momentum going after the restaurant project wrapped. Focus stayed locked on sharpening skills, growing the site, creating consistent content, staying in motion with weightlifting and exercise, and positioning for the next opportunity via networking. Added an extra mathematics course (advanced algebra) to strengthen the calculation foundation. Self-teaching geometry and pipe-bending. Also spent deliberate time figuring out how to manage and plan things as a brand—including stickers and other ways to support the platform long-term. The grind didn’t slow—study, content, networking, and readiness all stayed high priority. New tools on the site (including the live Sparky Feed), updated homepage, and expanded resources made knowledge more accessible.

Lesson of the Week

When the field hours pause, real work continues in the books, content, network, and the systems we build. As we grow in this trade, we get clear on what we want and what we want to be remembered for. What mark do you want to make? Pulling wire is fine and necessary—but running a team that pulls wire consistently and well takes a different mindset and willpower—sharing wisdom so others become better than you takes yet another level of stoicism.

Learn to take care of your body as if you have no enclosure for your brain; guys are blowing backs out at 24, stop this—your circuits will be left to dry in the environment. When opportunities come, step back and reason through the outcomes. Weigh the downsides: travel, distance, type of work. Find what makes you happy and leans toward your ultimate goal. Always take care of yourself and watch your back. Confirm everything yourself. You’re the electrician.

Remember ALWAYS to track your hours. Timesheets, cards, paystubs—whatever your company or boss gives you (by law) should clearly state the hours you worked. Keep these in a dedicated book or folder with the exact company name, job, and location. Include all signed forms from your foreman, master, or journeyman, along with any required proof of work hours. No matter the state, make sure you have that information, or you will end up regretting it.

I have also signed up and paid for my 5th module at Bay Path. This module will focus heavily on NEC calculations and the related codes, leading into Module 6. These final four modules of my education will be the most important and valuable—ones to really take note of and dwell upon.

The 2026 NEC Code Book has been acquired, and printouts of the Massachusetts amendments are planned.

Study Time: 2–3 hours daily (roughly 14–21 focused hours) — circuit analysis, load calculations, exam-style practice with the 2026 NEC, plus an extra advanced algebra course.

Resume has been updated, and the search is active—residential or commercial work in my area. 215+ commercial hours are banked. Project completion notes for the Wonder Restaurant (and related blog) are coming soon. Opportunities have come in, but not all fit the long-term goal of the kind of electrician and leader I aim to become.
