MULTIPLE-OUTLET BRANCH CIRCUITS
A branch circuit can supply:
TWO OR MORE OUTLETS OR RECEPTACLES.
But again, there's a load limitation.
The sum of the loads that will operate simultaneously cannot exceed:
THE BRANCH-CIRCUIT AMPERE RATING
This is another place where the NEC is making you think about:
WHAT WILL OPERATE AT THE SAME TIME?
265.22
Individual branch circuit
→ Load cannot exceed circuit rating.
265.23
Multiple-outlet branch circuit
→ Simultaneous loads cannot exceed circuit rating.
Similar concept.
Different application.
A multiple-outlet branch circuit is rated at 100A.
The loads expected to operate simultaneously total 96A.
Is the simultaneous load within the circuit's rating?
A. Yes
B. No
C. Only if the OCPD is 125A
D. Only if the circuit has one outlet
ANSWER: A
96A ≤ 100A
