SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Temporary Installations (Part 1 - Article 590) ⚡
Construction sites, holiday lighting limits, and mandatory removal rules—welcome to Article 590! How does the National Electrical Code regulate temporary power systems? Let's break down the scope! 👇
SLIDE 2 (SCOPE & APPROVAL OF WIRING)
Temporary Power Foundations:
The Article 590 Scope: Applies to temporary electric power and lighting installations at transient or permanent locations like construction sites, store parking lots, or local fairs.
Permanent Standards Apply: Except as specifically modified in Article 590, all permanent wiring rules apply; temporary installations must never reduce safety levels.
Approval Criteria: Temporary wiring methods are approved based on length of service, severity of physical abuse, exposure to weather, and special project conditions.
SLIDE 3 (TIME CONSTRAINTS & MANDATORY REMOVAL)
Duration and Clean-Up:
Construction Projects: Temporary power and lighting are permitted during construction, remodeling, maintenance, repair, or demolition without a strict time limit.
Holiday Decorative Lighting: Limited to a period not to exceed 90 days (unless products are explicitly marked as "string lights for all-year use" per UL 588).
Immediate Removal: Temporary wiring must be completely removed immediately upon completion of construction or the purpose for which it was installed.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Because temporary wiring may omit certain permanent installation features, failing to completely remove temporary wiring when a project ends leaves behind non-compliant hazards!
