SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: ESVSE Sizing & Disconnects (Part 2 - Article 624) ⚡
How do you size branch circuits for industrial cart chargers? When is a lockable disconnect mandatory? Section 624 sets strict load and control rules. Let's break it down! 👇
SLIDE 2 (INDIVIDUAL BRANCH CIRCUITS & 125% SIZING) Continuous Load Calculations:
Individual Circuits: Each outlet supplying ESVSE greater than 16 amperes or 120 volts must be supplied by an individual branch circuit.
Continuous Duty: Because charging is classified as a continuous load, feeders and branch-circuit OCPDs must be sized for not less than 125 percent of the maximum equipment load.
SLIDE 3 (POWER CONTROL SYSTEMS & DISCONNECTS) Load Management & Service Disconnects:
Power Control Systems (PCS): Article 130 PCS load management is permitted to limit the maximum equipment load on services and feeders.
Disconnect Requirement: Supply equipment rated over 60 amperes or over 150 volts to ground requires a readily accessible, lockable-open disconnecting means.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
If a remote disconnecting means is installed away from the EVSE charger, Section 624.43 requires a permanent plaque on the equipment denoting the exact location of that disconnect!
