SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Park Trailers (Part 1 - Article 552) ⚡
Seasonal units, low-voltage battery compartments, and DC circuit protections—welcome to Article 552! How does the National Electrical Code regulate park trailers? Let's break down the scope! 👇
SLIDE 2 (SCOPE & SEASONAL USE)
What Article 552 Covers:
The Article 552 Scope: Applies to electrical conductors and equipment installed within or on park trailers (single-chassis units with wheels, not exceeding 400 sq. ft. set up, and not used as permanent residences).
Seasonal Classification: Park trailers are intended for seasonal use—they are not intended as permanent dwelling units or commercial offices, clinics, or banks (which fall under relocatable structures in Article 545).
Listing Mandate: All electrical materials, devices, appliances, and fittings installed in or on park trailers must be listed and labeled.
SLIDE 3 (LOW-VOLTAGE DC SYSTEMS & BATTERIES)
DC Wiring & Compartment Safety:
Conductor Standards: Low-voltage DC circuits must use copper conductors (or the metal frame as a return path) sized 6 AWG through 18 AWG, with single-wire conductors strictly of the stranded type.
Battery Compartments: Storage batteries must be securely attached and installed in an area vapor-tight to the interior and ventilated directly to the exterior via top and bottom openings (minimum area 1100 mm² / 1.7 in.² each) within 50 mm (2 in.) of the top and bottom.
Prohibited Locations: Batteries must never be installed in any compartment containing spark- or flame-producing equipment.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
The battery chassis-grounding terminal must connect to the unit frame using a minimum 8 AWG copper conductor (or matching the unbonded lead size if larger) to safely handle fault currents!
