SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER) ⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Phase Layout & Overcurrent Protection (Part 4) ⚡
A-B-C phase arrangements, delta high-leg markings, and individual grounded conductor terminals—let's finish Article 408! 👇
SLIDE 2 (BUSBAR ARRANGEMENTS & PHASE IDENTIFICATION) Layout and High-Leg Rules:
AC Phase Arrangement: 3-phase buses must be arranged A, B, C from front-to-back, top-to-bottom, or left-to-right (with B phase designating the higher voltage on delta systems).
High-Leg Warning Labels: Switchboards and panelboards containing 4-wire delta systems must display a permanent caution label identifying the high leg voltage to ground.
SLIDE 3 (PANELBOARD OVERCURRENT PROTECTION & TERMINATIONS) Protecting Panels and Terminals:
Main OCPD Protection: Panelboards must be protected by an overcurrent protective device rated not greater than the panelboard itself, located within or upstream.
Individual Grounded Terminals: Each grounded circuit conductor must terminate in an individual terminal that is not shared with another conductor (unless specifically identified for multiple wires).
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP) 💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip:
Never double-lug neutral wires under a single terminal screw in a panelboard unless the terminal is explicitly rated and listed for multiple conductors—doing so violates 408.41 and creates dangerous troubleshooting hazards!
