SLIDE 1 (HOOK / COVER)
⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Capacitor Installations (Part 1 - Article 460) ⚡
Power factor correction capacitor scopes, the strict ban on reconditioned units, and flammable liquid enclosure rules—welcome to Article 460! Let's break down the fundamentals! 👇
SLIDE 2 (SCOPE & RECONDITIONED EQUIPMENT BAN)
What Article 460 Covers & Prohibits:
System Scope: Article 460 covers the installation of capacitors on electrical circuits, excluding surge capacitors and components built into other apparatus.
Reconditioned Ban: Reconditioned capacitors are strictly prohibited from being installed.
SLIDE 3 (FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS & ACCIDENTAL CONTACT)
Enclosures and Safeguards:
Flammable Liquid Threshold: Capacitors containing more than 11 liters (3 gallons) of flammable liquid (applied to any single unit) must be enclosed in vaults or outdoor fenced enclosures per Article 110 Part III.
Guarding Live Parts: Capacitors accessible to unauthorized and unqualified persons must be guarded or enclosed to prevent accidental contact with energized parts, terminals, or buses.
SLIDE 4 (WRAP-UP)
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: Always check your capacitor oil volume—any single unit containing over 3 gallons of flammable liquid demands a rated vault or outdoor fenced enclosure!
