⚡ NEC Quick Hit: Equipment Markings, Threading & Bonding (Part 4) ⚡
Why do NPT threaded entries require at least five full threads engaged? How do you properly bond raceways in classified areas? Let's finish Article 500! 👇
Required Nameplate Details:
Equipment nameplates must specify the Class, Division, Material Group, Temperature Class (T-code), and ambient temperature range.
Equipment identified for Division 1 is also permitted and suitable for Division 2 locations of the same class, group, and temperature class.
Securing Explosionproof Integrity:
NPT-threaded entries into explosionproof equipment must be made up with at least five threads fully engaged (four and one-half for listed factory-threaded entries).
All unused openings must be securely closed with listed blanking elements or close-up plugs.
💡 Apprentice Pro-Tip: All conduit joints in hazardous locations must be made wrenchtight to ensure a reliable ground-fault current path and prevent arcing. Bonding jumpers are not a permitted substitute for tight threaded joints!
