The location and number of service disconnects depend on the type of installation.
For installations other than one- and two-family dwellings, the service disconnect is located in a readily accessible location.
It can be outside or inside nearest the point where the conductors enter.
Service disconnects are not permitted in bathrooms.
Where generators, solar systems, or other energy sources aren't disconnected adjacent to the service disconnect, a plaque identifies where those disconnecting means are located.
The default is:
ONE service disconnect.
But qualifying installations can have:
2 through 6
service disconnects.
Each disconnect must be arranged in an appropriate enclosure, switchboard section, switchgear compartment, metering center compartment, or other permitted compartment.
What's the maximum number of separate service disconnects allowed for one qualifying service?
Answer: Six.
Remember the basic progression:
One → exceptions → up to six when permitted.
