Slide 1 — Hook "Today: keeping moisture out of cabinets, and the fit-and-finish rules for mounting them flush in a wall."
Slide 2 — 312.4 Damp locations
Surface-type enclosures in damp/wet locations need to keep moisture from entering/accumulating, with at least ¼" airspace between the enclosure and the wall/supporting surface — enclosures in WET locations specifically must be weatherproof. (Nonmetallic enclosures on concrete/masonry/tile can skip the airspace.)
Where raceways/cables enter ABOVE the level of uninsulated live parts in a wet-location enclosure, they need fittings specifically listed for wet locations.
Slide 3 — 312.5 & 312.7
312.5 Position in wall: in noncombustible walls (concrete/tile), the cabinet's front edge can be set back no more than ¼" from the finished surface. In combustible walls (wood, etc.), the cabinet must be flush with or projecting FROM the finished surface — never recessed.
312.7: broken/incomplete noncombustible surfaces around a flush-mounted cabinet/cutout box must be repaired so there's no gap larger than 1/8" at the cover's edge.
Slide 4 — Quiz + CTA Q: "In a combustible wall (like wood), how must a cabinet be positioned relative to the finished surface?" A) Recessed up to ¼ in. B) Flush with or projecting from the finished surface C) Recessed at least 1 in. D) No requirement exists
✅ Answer: B — 312.5: in combustible walls, the cabinet must be flush or projecting — never set back.
