Episode 30 — 120.82(D) EVSE Loads & The Complete Optional Dwelling Method

For the optional dwelling calculation:

The EVSE load comes from 120.57.
Remember the rule from Episode 23:
➡️ Use the nameplate rating
➡️ Use 7,200 VA
Then 120.82(D) brings that entire calculated EVSE load into the optional dwelling calculation at:
Unlike the General Loads bucket, EVSE doesn't get the:
8 kVA @ 100% + remainder @ 40%
treatment.
And it doesn't get the heating/AC selection process either.
It's simply:

Here's the entire structure:
Start with the general-load subtotal.
Then apply:
Determine every applicable selection under 120.82(C).
Then:
Remember the special rule for Option 6 systems from Episode 29.
Calculate the EVSE load using 120.57.

That's the big picture of the optional dwelling-unit method.
One important distinction:
The optional method doesn't mean you forget about the neutral.
So don't take the total from this formula and automatically call that your neutral load.
